The festival will open on Indigenous Peoples Day, Friday, June 21st, 2024 with a special opening. This will be followed by a jam-packed weekend of performances until Sunday, June 23rd.

There are outdoor sites on the adjacent grounds to the Enwaayang Building at Trent University and an indoor space at Nozhem First Peoples Performance Space.

It is an unjuried, uncensored festival for independent performers in theatre, dance, music and comedy. Participants send in applications and are chosen by lottery. Performers receive 100% of the box office proceeds. NIFF is proud to be a member of the Canadian Association of Fringe Festivals.

NIFF stands out as all performers or performance groups feature a majority of Indigenous artists. Artists are guided by seasoned Indigenous mentors to refine their artistic practice and are given various artistic development opportunities.

NIFF takes place in the traditional lands of the Michi Saagiig, within the boundaries of the Williams Treaty and Treaty 20, on land known as Nogojiwanong/Peterborough/Trent University.

Expect punctual starts for all shows. Given the limited audience capacity and short durations of the performances, punctuality is crucial. We suggest arriving 15 minutes prior to show time.
